Chinese smartphone maker Smartisan launched their second device dubbed U1 or JianGuo (means 'nuts' in Chinese). The phone is made out of plastic and the rear panel will be available in a wide range of colors which has a unique grooved vertically striped design to it for better grip. The body is only available in white, but there’s a choice of seven colors for the tactile rear cover.

The phone has volume rockers on both the left as well as the right side so that one side can be assigned to control the volume while the other can be used to adjust screen brightness. Holding both the keys together will capture an instant photo even when you phone is in sleep.

It runs on a highly customized UI called Smartisan OS. It has simple three-by-three grid layout per page, but you can zoom out to six by six or nine by nine layout. It offers features like disc scratching in the music app, integrated business card scanner, speedy local voice search tool, screen shot tool which can automatically capture an entire page and the ability to sort apps in many ways according to color. The device can also match the color of the UI with that of the back cover.

Coming to the specs, Smartisan U1 features 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Inside there is octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor (4×1.5GHz Cortex-A53 + 4×1.0GHz Cortex-A53) with 2GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB storage. For imaging there is 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 5-megapixel front shooter. The phone supports 4G LTE, dual-SIM, NFC and is fueled by 2900mAh battery. 

Smartisan U1 16GB model will cost CNY 899 ($140 | Rs. 9,200) and the 32GB model costs CNY 999 ($160 | Rs. 10,500) and will be available for purchase in China starting September 1. There is no word on its global availability.
