Apple iPhone 6s with 3D Touch display, 12MP iSight camera gets official
Apple has officially unveled the iPhone 6s at a special event in San Francisco. CEO Tim Cook described the new iPhone "as the most advanced phones ever".
Apple's iPhone 6s carries the same design language as its predecessor, but now has a new aluminum, custom Apple alloy in the constructions. It has the same 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display with 750 x 1334 pixels resolution. It has 3D Touch technology underneath, which is an evolution of the Force touch on the Apple Watch.
This new technology comes with two new gestures called "Peek" and "Pop" that let you bring up contextual menus on home screen icons as well as within apps. Peek gives you a preview of the information you are touching, while with Pop you can go right into it. For example, pressing on the Facebook icon gives you a shortcut to update your status and view notifications.
Apple has finally ditched the 8-megapixel sensor and finally gone with a larger camera sensor on iPhone 6s. The primary camera is now 12-megapixel with dual-LED dual-tone flash. It supports 4K video recording. On the front there is 5-megapixel shooter. Apple is introducing a technology where the display will light up to act as flash for the front camera. The phone comes with a new feature called 'Live Photos' that let you capture audio to go with your photos.
On the connectivity front, the phone supports LTE Cat. 4, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/b/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, A2DP, LE, A-GPS with GLONASS, NFC for Apple Pay and VoLTE support.
Apple has also enhanced the performance of the TouchID which is now two times faster than the first generation.
Apple iPhone 6s will come in 4 colors- Silver, Gold, Space Grey and Rose Gold. The base model, 16GB will cost you $649, the 64GB costs $749 and that 128GB model is priced at $849. The iPhone 6s will be up for pre-order in the US, UK, Australia and nine other countries on September 12th, and will go on sale on September 25. It will go on sale in over 130 countries by the end of the year, so we can expect an India launch in the coming months.
Apple has also announced that iOS 9 will roll out to all compatible devices on September 16.
